UROGENESYS ANNOUNCES U.S. PATENT FOR PROSTATE SPECIFIC ANTIGEN(PSA) PROMOTER SEQUENCES AND THEIR USES IN GENE THERAPY
Santa Monica, Calif., August 30, 1999 - UroGenesys, Inc. announced today that the U.S. Patent Office has issued a patent to the University of California Los Angeles, for promoter sequences of the human Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA), and their uses for gene therapy applications in prostate cancer.The patent is licensed exclusively to UroGenesys.
The patent co-inventors are Arie Belldegrun, M.D., and Shen Pang, Ph.D., both from the UCLA School of Medicine.Dr. Belldegrun is a Founder of UroGenesys and Chairman of its Board of Directors.
The patent (No. 5,919,652) claims sequences that regulate the specific expression of PSA in the prostate, in conjunction with multiple enhancer elements.It also covers their utilization to direct high and specific expression of therapeutic genes in the prostate for treatment of prostate cancer or other disorders of the prostate gland.
UroGenesys President and CEO Donald B.
